Locating documents
We can locate documents from repositories for you. This
is the task of a Record Agent and is cheaper than employing
a Genealogist who undertakes research. A Record Agent locates
specific documents as directed.
The more information you can supply about the document,
the quicker and cheaper the recovery can be and therefore
we offer a two tiered service. You supply the actual reference
locator for the document which saves the Record Agent searching
the index and costs less than if you do not specify such
a reference. For example: you may elect to search a published
probate calendar for a distant jurisdiction and find a reference.
Giving us this detail will enable our Record Agent to attend
the appropriate office a secure the document for you. Please
be aware that if you quote a specific reference then we
take no responsibility if that document is not the appropriate
one.
Some examples of documents we can obtain for you after you have located them include:
• papers from series stored at The
National Archives at Kew London
- you use
the online catalogue (PROCAT)
to find the record reference.
• birth, marriage or death certificates from the
Family Record Centre in London
- you use
the online search offered by FindMyPast
• many British archives
and libraries allow you to access their catalogues
and you will find a multitude of material
- you use
the online catalogue search offered by A2A
to find the items.
Of course you can also use indexes at your local family history society, some
public libraries and LDS Centres instead of searching the
Internet for the material. Regardless of how you gain the
reference - we can then save you the hassles and obtain the
document.
To initiate a document recovery or make a general enquiry
about the service—complete the Document
recovery form.
